Paris is made for children. I attend Opticon, an event and art show celebrating the life and works of Philippe Découflé, well-know for directing and choreographing the 1987 New Order video, True Faith. He has a long and diverse career as an art-dance-video-commercial-theater-and-circus/spectacle director. I fear that my list may be too short, that I have left something out certainly. This is a very adult professional career listing, and in a world where almost everything is made for adults, I expect film clips and event descriptions glued to the wall with monologues reflecting the intellect, the thought behind each carefully prepared work. I did get what I expected, but I also received so much more.
I had fun, fun in the dark, play fun. Opticon is a carnival, a playground filled with different light-and-shadow events. Children laughing screaming playing. Découflé specialized in inventive light and shadow shows in some of his videos as well as other events...Opticon gives the children many opportunities in many hidden corners of the enormous event hall to enter physically into that world, and even to witness themselves on the larger screen.
For a few euros, and often for free, Paris gives this as a gift.
